Introducing melissa broadbent
Creating large-scale acrylic paintings is something I always did as a hobby. But in 2025 I began my journey as a full time artist.
Following a successful business career, shifting my focus from corporate to creative was very challenging and a real learning experience. My personal style and practice is evolving rapidly, which is both satisfying and scary all at the same time!
My style blends abstract expressionism and impressionism. My intention for my florals is to evoke a sense of fun and joy. Many works are on a larger scale, but more recently I have done a number of smaller works on board which is a surface I really enjoy working on.
My background as a dressage competitor and judge inspired an earlier series of equine works, capturing the grace and energy of horses. I am also a keen photographer of both still life and the wonderful landscapes that New Zealand has to offer.
Outside of art I enjoy life in beautiful New Zealand. I have studios in Arrowtown and Auckland and I’m passionate about skiing and mountain biking.
This website is a reflection of my journey—one that’s rooted in passion, learning, and the pursuit of artistic excellence.
I am excited to share my artistic journey with you. Please follow me on socials for regular updates and inspiration.
